Airlines Worldwide Are Rushing To Become COVID-Safe
Jun 25, 2020With some countries still looking down the barrel of COVID-19, others are now viewing the light at the end of the tunnel. Australia and New Zealand alongside Asian and European countries such as Singapore, Japan, Greece and South Korea are on that list. And as such many airlines are now developing tight policies on how their travellers are able to board one of their flights. To mask or not to mask Singapore Airlines and their subsidiaries are now requiring all travellers to wear a mask on board their fights at all times. Other airlines such as QANTAS and Air New… Read more »

New Data Showing A Switch Of Travel Mindset
Jun 25, 2020Multiple current sources of data are showing a switch of high-volume traveller habits in a post-COVID-19 world. These changes include a large-scale exodus of international travel intenders (those who classically would take multiple overseas trips per year) to becoming domestic travel intenders. Whilst most may think this is a bi-product of COVID-19, the same data shows that this switch has been occurring on a much smaller scale over a longer period. Knight Frank’s worldwide study on habits of the top 1% (named The Wealth Report) reflects this change in their most recent study based on 2019 data. The data shows… Read more »

Singapore Is Ready For Us When We Are
Jun 25, 2020Singapore is pushing for an Australian border re-opening with the small colonial nation’s economy being heavily reliant on tourism and most visits per year coming from other Asian nations and Australia/New Zealand. But comments this week from Federal Tourism Minister Simon Birmingham seem to have quelled the hopes of the Singaporean Government, claiming that open tourist-related travel to or from Australia remains “quite some distances off.” None the less, Singapore’s Changi Airport has been making leaps forward in its quest to become totally COVID-safe prior to the reopening of travel from other nations such as Australia, having this week announced… Read more »

South Australia Has Opened Its Borders To Some States. But Is That Legal?
Jun 25, 2020At midnight on June 17th, South Australia lifted border restrictions for domestic travel to Northern Territory, Western Australia and Tasmania. Which seems logical considering that all states have not had a confirmed case of COVID-19 in weeks (for some in months). While some of those states still won’t allow travel from other states (which means South Australians won’t be able to travel to those states), it does mean that residents of the above states will be able to travel to South Australia. Those issues aside an even bigger problem is emerging for South Australia’s restricted border opening. The Australian Federal… Read more »

From now until the 24th of June 2020, QANTAS is offering a serve of triple QANTAS points on a range of domestic flights for travel between the 27th of June and the 31st of October. Strategies To Manage Travel Credits Post-COVID-19
Jun 25, 2020As most avid travellers know by now, COVID-19 represented a unique and odd challenge to the travel industry when first presented. It was an unknown crisis which, in the space of two weeks, essentially shut down all national and international travel. Airlines and hospitality providers alike experienced an influx of cancellation requests and to avoid an industry collapse had to provide some sort of a future solution to secure the longevity of travel. That’s where the idea of providing initial and unused travel credits came into play. Travel credits have had a long history with airlines (especially budget airlines) already…. Read more »

Alan Joyce Lobbies For Social Distancing Exemption
May 12, 2020QANTAS CEO, Alan Joyce, has argued today against a “middle seat free” policy which is rumoured to be a requirement of future social distancing restrictions on travel. Theoretically, the policy could cut flight capacity on airliners by more than a third. Most airlines currently have been enforcing some description of a “middle seat” policy voluntarily up until now. But with the Australian Government’s COVIDSafe exit plan on the horizon for all states and territories, many airlines are now making their own plans to return to business as usual for flight paths. “The social distancing rules are supposed to be 1.5… Read more »

Melbourne’s Undiscovered Event Venue
May 8, 2020It’s been almost four years now since the Melbourne iteration of QT’s hotel chain opened. The hotel still looks fresh when placed against some of its competitors in the city and whilst the rooms and service a far beyond adequate for what is considered standard for Melbourne’s 5-star hospitality scene in the 21st century, where the QT stands out is it’s commitment to small to large-scale corporate events in the slightly more boutique market. I’ve been to three smaller conventions held at the QT Melbourne now (and one slightly larger event), and funnily enough, all three have managed to do… Read more »

Changi Airport’s SilverKris Lounge Renovation Slowed But On Track
May 8, 2020During July of 2019, Singapore Airlines announced a $50 million make-over and modernisation project of their SilverKris lounges at Changi Airport in Singapore. While progress on the project has been slowed by COVID-19, Singapore Airlines have claimed that the renovation is on track for a Q3/Q4 2020 opening. Originally the lounge was slated for an opening before June 2020 and a spokesman for Singapore Airlines earlier released a statement claiming that the “project to renovate SilverKris Lounges at Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 3 is ongoing.” Singapore Airlines also intends to renovate the adjacent and world-class First-Class lounge during the second… Read more »

Travel Predictions Post COVID-19
May 8, 2020As the COVID-19 pandemic wanes and Australia’s active infection number continues to drop, many frequent travellers and industry commentators have turned their attention to the return of travel both domestically and internationally in the aftermath. Whilst there is some division over how travel will return and what the endgame will look like, there is one consensus that the majority of experts hold and that’s that in the short-term travel will not even remotely resemble what it did pre-2020. Here is why. Tourists Are Going To Travel Less Distance During 2019 the average Australian was prepared to travel up to 9… Read more »
