Airbus And Their Future Of Travel
Sep 29, 2020Not one to stand still for long, Airbus, has been making good use of their time in isolation during COVID19. Most recently, this week Airbus has released concepts of three aircraft which it claims to be both zero-emission and commercial. Airbus says these new aircraft could enter service as soon as 2035 with some of the concepts flying even earlier. Airbus believes the key to the large aircraft’s primary power source is hydrogen, a fuel source which has long been researched and developed by automotive manufacturers such as BMW and Audi. Hydrogen fuel has been proven to have zero waste… Read more »

Why Noosa’s Restaurants Are Finding Success Australia-wide
Sep 29, 2020Noosa has been one of Australia’s premier hospitality destinations for decades prior to the COVID19 pandemic and will most likely continue to be decades after. The lazy beach town very much has two distinct sides to it. The beaches and cafes which travel at half pace to everywhere else and Hastings Street which could be mistaken for Miami’s luxury shopping or hospitality districts had it not been for the very distinctly Australian luxury brands which litter the street. Yes, Noosa is very much a tale of two holidays at times. But today the little tourist town finds itself comparatively empty… Read more »

QANTAS Is Selling Fully Stocked Boeing 747 Bar Carts
Sep 29, 2020Looking through this week’s news in travel, I had to admit this story caught my eye and fast became my favourite feel-good story of the week. QANTAS is selling over a thousand bar carts from their now-defunct Boeing 747 fleet. Better still though they’re also selling the carts fully stocked. As in stocked from top to bottom with 80 mini bottles of wine and Champagne. QANTAS engineers were able to salvage the carts during the 747 fleet’s final journey to the Mojave Desert in California. The carts were also products of decades of international flying including up to 2,000 flights… Read more »

In A Cashless World Ghost Cards Are Becoming A Popular Corporate Tool
Sep 29, 2020Ghost cards aren’t anything really all that new. The technology and general concept of the ghost card have actually been around for decades. In fact, the idea came from a consumer product which was aimed at stopping external theft. The idea that the physical credit card you use is more of a tool than a payment gateway. The technology allowed consumers to store multiple card numbers on one physical card and stopped physical fraud from occurring on those cards. The idea unfortunately never took with mobile manufacturers such as Apple and Google creating their own payment platforms using a mobile… Read more »

Rex Is Launching A Frequent Flyer Program
Sep 29, 2020Regional Express has been on fire of late. They first acquired an entire fleet of Boeing 737 jets which were being leased to Virgin Australia and were based in Sydney and then announced they had ambitions to become national carrier number 3. They plan to do this by starting flights between the capital cities of Australia from March 2021. And want to launch specifically flights along the east coast, which in the past have been the most travelled routes in Australia. But Rex has announced another part to their grand plan which puts them in a good position to compete… Read more »

America’s Abbott Laboratories Have A COVID19 Game Changer
Sep 29, 2020Pharmaceuticals and the politics behind big pharma are confusing. I think everyone would admit that straight from the outset. Big pharma’s success isn’t always driven by their success in research or medical resource production, sometimes it’s just driven by company valuation, share price or regulation. And when the world is dealing with a pandemic such as COVID19, populations become restless with some of the typical excuses for pharmaceutical production company’s holdups in getting important lifesaving game-changers to market. That is happening right now in the United States with a COVID19 game-changer which may allow for not just domestic but global… Read more »

Virgin Australia Sale To Bain Capital Approved
Sep 4, 2020Virgin Australia’s creditors have approved the sale of Virgin Australia to American private equity firm, Bain Capital. Creditors convened on Friday morning to debate and finally cast their ultimate vote on the sale. Virgin Australia’s administrators had recommended the sale to Bain Capital as the best way forward for the airline to emerge from voluntary administration and eventually become profitable again. As part of the proposed deeds of company arrangement, Bain ensured that all employee entitlements would be paid in full, customer travel credits would be honoured and a number of supply and finance arrangements would continue. The total commitment… Read more »

International Travel Still A No Go Until December
Sep 4, 2020The Australian Federal Government, on Thursday, made a decision to extend the Government’s current biosecurity order until the 17th of December. This subsequently and once again threw the travel and tourism industry into turmoil. The current order which was put in place at the beginning of the pandemic was due to expire by the end of day on the 17th of September. With the revised December expiration date the biosecurity order has effectively been extended by 3 months. “The decision has been informed by specialist medical and epidemiological advice provided by the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee.” Health Minister, Greg… Read more »

Wine Country Pegged As Victoria’s Next Corporate Event Destination
Sep 4, 2020I never thought I’d be listing Nagambie as a destination for a corporate event in the previous years. But the truth is over the past decade, Nagambie, Mitchelton and the Goulburn have reinvented themselves as the hot, Australian country getaway which isn’t even an hour out of Melbourne. This was further reinforced over the past year when the new Mitchelton Hotel in Nagambie was opened by the MGallery by Sofitel. Overlooking the grapevines and not 5 minutes from the town centre, the Mitchelton Hotel is intended to be the extremely small country town’s first look into luxury travel. But similarly,… Read more »

The Travel Sector Could Be Entering A Bull Market
Sep 4, 2020Some trading sectors have benefitted very largely from COVID19. Technology, fast office furniture and some takeaway hospitality sectors are good examples of business whose share prices have benefitted from COVID19. Be-en-large though as of March/April of 2020 both the ASX and their American markets (NYSE, DOW and NASDAQ) experienced sharp falls in both share price and profitability. One of the sectors who suffered most from these falls was travel. Hawaiian Holdings Inc. (HA) for example who is the parent company of Hawaiian airlines was trading at almost $30USD in their peak prior to COVID19 and today are struggling to hold… Read more »
