Looking through this week’s news in travel, I had to admit this story caught my eye and fast became my favourite feel-good story of the week. QANTAS is selling over a thousand bar carts from their now-defunct Boeing 747 fleet. Better still though they’re also selling the carts fully stocked. As in stocked from top to bottom with 80 mini bottles of wine and Champagne.
QANTAS engineers were able to salvage the carts during the 747 fleet’s final journey to the Mojave Desert in California. The carts were also products of decades of international flying including up to 2,000 flights and 15 million km in the air.
The carts are battered and beaten from their long years of service, but QANTAS believes the carts are for those “with an appreciation for aviation collectable and an eye for design.”
QANTAS has also listed the inclusions for each half-sized bar cart which went on sale last Thursday including:
- 40 mini bottles of Australian white wine
- 40 mini bottles of Australian red wine
- 1 full-sized bottle of champagne
- 1 sleeve of Tim Tams
- 1 sleeve of savoury biscuits
- 1 packet of smoked almonds
- 2 QANTAS business class amenity kits
- 1 Sheridan throw made for QANTAS first class
- 2 pairs of QANTAS business class pyjamas
QANTAS has also listed the half cart for $974.70 and have similarly listed a full bar cart option for $1,474.70 and included double of all products on the above list. The package also offers free delivery to all metropolitan locations.
QANTAS is also selling more 747 memorabilia at an auction in the domestic business lounge in two weeks ahead of their much anticipated seven-hour Boeing 787 “flight to nowhere” sightseeing flight.
“There has been huge demand for QANTAS 747 memorabilia and frequent flyers have expressed keen interest to convert the bespoke inflight trolley into everything from lampstands to storage units.” QANTAS Executive Manager of Product and Service, Phil Capps, claimed when announcing the sale of the units.
“The fact that they come fully stocked with some of QANTAS’ most popular onboard service items will hopefully inspire some high-flying fun at home.”
